How It Works

Inside The Formula

There is no magic in this bottle and we are not going to pretend otherwise. There is a set of nutrients that specific biological machinery cannot run without.

Start With What Skin Actually Is

Your skin is not a surface. It is a factory running continuously in the layer underneath the one you can see. Cells are born at the base, spend four to six weeks travelling upward while filling themselves with keratin, flatten, die, form the barrier that keeps your water in, and flake off. The face in your mirror this morning was built roughly a month ago.

That single fact explains almost everything about how a supplement behaves. Nothing you swallow can improve a cell that has already died and reached the surface. What nutrition can influence is the quality of what gets built next, which is why the honest unit of measurement here is the renewal cycle rather than the week.

Four Jobs, Not Thirteen Ingredients

It is easier to understand our panel as four jobs than as a list. Almost every nutrient on it is there because it is required for one of these.

The Mechanism

What The Panel Is Actually Doing

Five processes. Every declared amount on our label exists to serve one of them.

01

Copying the DNA

Before a skin cell can divide it has to copy its own genome, and DNA is written using carbon atoms that folate carries into place. Folate is regenerated by vitamin B12, so a shortfall in either stalls the same step. Fast-dividing tissue notices first, and skin divides harder than almost anything you own.

02

Assembling the keratin

Hair shafts and nail plates are built out of keratin, a protein assembled from amino acids. Biotin is the cofactor five carboxylase enzymes cannot function without, and those enzymes sit directly in the metabolism of the amino acids keratin is made from.

03

Building the collagen

Collagen gives skin its structure, and your body makes it from scratch. Two enzymes have to modify each fresh strand before three of them can wind into a stable triple helix, and both stall without vitamin C. This is the single least negotiable requirement on the entire panel.

04

Protecting what is built

Cell membranes are made of fats that oxidise in chain reactions. Vitamin E sits inside the membrane and absorbs that reaction before it propagates; vitamin C then regenerates the vitamin E so it can work again. The two belong on a label together for that reason alone.

05

Directing the traffic

Vitamin A behaves less like a nutrient and more like a hormone. Its active form binds receptors sitting on your DNA and switches whole gene programmes on and off, and in skin those programmes decide how a cell matures on its way up. Vitamin D and zinc work alongside it on maturation, healing and barrier defence.

The Part Most Labels Skip

Everything above describes what happens when a nutrient is missing and then supplied. It does not describe what happens when someone who already had plenty takes more, and the difference between those two situations is the most important thing on this page.

Correcting a shortfall changes things, sometimes visibly. Adding a nutrient on top of an adequate intake usually changes nothing at all, because the enzyme that needed it was never the thing holding the process back. Water-soluble vitamins in particular are simply excreted once the machinery is saturated.

So the honest answer to "will this work for me" depends on something we cannot see from here: whether your diet was already covering these nutrients. People eating a narrow diet, people who have cut out food groups, people under real stress, people at northern latitudes in winter and people going through hormonal change are the ones most likely to have a gap worth closing.

Why The Amounts Look The Way They Do

Two figures on our panel raise eyebrows in opposite directions, so here is the reasoning behind both.

Biotin at 5000 mcg is very high

An adult needs roughly thirty micrograms a day. Five thousand is more than a hundred times that, and it is the number the whole category settled on rather than a figure derived from a trial in healthy people. Biotin has an unusually clean safety record and the excess is excreted, but it is also the reason for the blood-test warning we repeat everywhere. We use the category-standard figure and we tell you exactly what it does to a thyroid panel.

Zinc at 2.7 mg looks small

It looks small because it is deliberately modest. Zinc and copper compete for the same absorption route, and months of high-dose zinc can quietly produce a copper shortfall. A small daily figure supports the enzymes without shifting that balance. We would rather explain a conservative number than print an impressive one.

Why This Form

Four of our nutrients — A, D, E and the carotenoids — are fat soluble, which is why we suggest taking Gelagen shortly before a meal rather than in isolation. The B vitamins and vitamin C are water soluble and absorb regardless. Chewing rather than swallowing matters more than people expect, because a chewable is designed to begin breaking down in the mouth.

Answers

About How It Works

The questions our customer care team answers most often.

Is there a clinical trial on Gelagen itself?

No. There is no trial of this finished gummy and we will not imply otherwise. What exists is a large body of nutritional science on the individual nutrients, most of it about what happens when each one is deficient and then restored.

Why not just eat better?

That is the better answer wherever it is achievable, and we say so on several pages. A supplement is a floor under a diet, not a substitute for one, and the guide we send with three and six bottle orders is largely about food for exactly this reason.

Do gummies absorb as well as capsules?

For the nutrients on our panel, the differences in this category are small compared with the difference between taking something daily and forgetting it. Chew properly and take it near a meal and you have covered the part that actually varies.

Will taking two bottles a day work faster?

No, and with vitamin A on the panel it is a genuinely bad idea. The rate-limiting step is your skin's renewal cycle, which is not something a larger dose accelerates.
